DDR Optimization and HW Testing for i.MX 6DualLite Board Designs
Kozio is expanding its support of the i.MX6 processor family from Freescale. Both VTOS DDR™ and VTOS Scan™ are being released with added support for the i.MX 6DualLite (i.MX6DL) with dual ARM® Cortex®-A9 cores. These products provide DDR validation and board-level testing for the entire line of i.MX6 processors.
DDR Calibration and Validation
VTOS DDR™ provides automatic DDR calibration and validation for board designs using LP-DDR2 or DDR3 memory. This lightweight tool provides a firmware image that runs on your embedded design without modification, and a UI that allows you to configure, tune, and validate all of your DDR2/DDR3 memory. After optimal settings are determined, export the settings to source code for use with your boot loader.
When used with vAccess, VTOS DDR provides an automatic way to run comprehensive DDR testing in seconds. This highly integrated combination of tools can be added to a production line to validate all of DDR memory before your boot loader and OS run. VTOS DDR does not require any DDR memory, so all of DDR memory can be validated before use. The firmware image is small and can be loaded in under 1 second.
VTOS DDR provides a wide array of memory commands that can be used for troubleshooting memory failures. In addition to standard tests such as Burst and March tests, VTOS DDR also provides constrained random testing allowing long test runs to use unique values for even more thorough testing.
Installation, configuration, calibration, and testing can be accomplished in under 30 minutes for each unique memory part. Allowing you to quickly qualify many memory parts.
Hardware Interface Testing and Troubleshooting
Use VTOS Scan™ to quickly configure and create various tests for GPIO, I2C,
SPI, UART, Ethernet, and USB devices. For busses that support scanning, use the Scan & Add feature to scan a bus and automatically add test cases for each device discovered. For other busses, use the Add Device Test feature to add and configure a test case for each device.
Use the import feature to automatically import your Pin Mux settings that were generated using Freescale tools. VTOS Scan takes care of converting your settings to commands that VTOS Scan can execute.
When developing new test configurations, VTOS Scan allows you to test our each new test case interactively. When you are ready for production testing, export your test configuration to a Kozio script file or NI TestStand Sequence for automated testing. Kozio provides a free simplistic test executive called vAccessTest for verifying your test sequences.
When you need to troubleshoot your hardware design, use the various VTOS Scan Action commands to read, write, and verify the various buses and devices. Save weeks of effort not having to code, compile, and debug other embedded test solutions.
Loading VTOS DDR or VTOS Scan Firmware
VTOS Tool firmware can be loaded into on-chip memory using JTAG, SD Card, or other available methods. No boot loader or OS software is required. All VTOS Tool firmware images are small, so they load fast, and run faster than software running from DDR memory.
In addition, the interpretive nature of these products provide a highly stable environment even through processor, memory and device faults. All VTOS Tools require minimal working components – only the processor core and communications interface (often serial) has to be working. New pin mux settings, DDR settings, and other configuration items are accomplished without code recompiling, image loading, and system restarts. Just load the new settings and test again.
