Kozio kDiagnostics™ Now Offers I/O Subsystem Measurement and Characterization

Comprehensive diagnostic software for embedded designs now verifies performance and validity of hardware under heavy loads

September 13, 2004, Longmont, Colo. – Kozio, Inc., a developer of embedded systems software, has introduced a new feature to its Kozio kDiagnostics™ product. Kozio I/O Engine™ allows users to configure and execute multiple threads of I/O operations to verify the performance and validity of hardware systems under heavy loads. I/O Engine measures performance under a controlled load while executing directly on an embedded system platform.

"We are pleased to release this innovative capability, which addresses specific customer requests and expands the already rich feature set of Kozio kDiagnostics," commented Keith Short, Kozio's Director of Technology. "With the Kozio I/O Engine feature, hardware engineers now have a tool for measuring the true performance of an embedded design, independent of the product's final application."

I/O Engine is configured via command line arguments or inputted through script files to emulate various loads while exercising multiple I/O interconnects with minimal overhead. I/O Engine and kDiagnostics require no additional software, operating systems or drivers, providing a minimal, clean environment for isolating a design's true performance. I/O Engine is ideal for stressing the system while testing data validity and completing certification testing. No host is required to generate I/O operations, and no target devices are required, although they can be used.

I/O Engine Features

  • Verify I/O channel and device functionality using pre-built tests.
  • Automatic discovery of channel devices.
  • Use pseudo-targets when actual devices are not required.
  • Measure performance variations under live and simulated configurations.
  • Test for data validity under various emulated load conditions.
  • Easily customize packet size, block count, addresses, etc.
  • Execute random reads, sequential reads, random writes and sequential writes.
  • Measure I/O performance using custom batches of concurrent I/O operations.

Hardware Support

  • Supports numerous Intel® XScale® and PowerPC processor architectures.
  • Support for IDE, ATA, Serial ATA, Ethernet, USB and other I/O channels.
